Memento Mori, Memento Vivere
A series of artworks inspired by 17th-century Vanitas paintings, known for their rich iconography and encouragement of reflection on life's important aspects. In this series, I explore the expressions “Memento Mori” and “Memento Vivere.” The "Memento Mori" pieces address our society issues such as our disconnection from nature and each other, superficiality, and addiction to technology. In contrast, the "Memento Vivere" works focus on envisioning a life centred on what truly matters.

“Unum sumus”
In “Unum sumus” we see the connection between humans and nature, what it means to belong to the natural world. Plenus, the character, is in symbiosis with its rich environment, mutating to adapt to it. An environment with lush vegetation and everything anyone can need. Within the artwork there are symbols of life, growth, resilience, rebirth and wisdom.

Me Specta!
Here, Vanitas, the character, is always on social media, always worried to be sharing their best outfits, their best smiley face, to be always looking good. They spend a great deal of time on their self image, botox, hairdresser, teeth whitening, designer clothes, you name it. The clock is ticking, life is going away.
Within the artwork there are symbols of the inevitability of death, vain pursuits of mankind and transience of life.
